What to expect

Your first training session

Thursday evenings at Kings College, Guildford during the season (April–August). Arrive, meet the team, and we'll get you into drills straight away. Here's how it goes:

1

Arrive & meet the team

Come to Kings College field around 6:30pm. Someone will meet you at the gate — just mention you're new. No need to book, but our club assistant can let the team know you're coming.

2

Warm-up & catching

We start with a group warm-up and then split into skills stations. New players start with throwing and catching fundamentals — it's relaxed, with experienced players helping you.

3

Batting practice

Everybody loves batting. We'll get you in the cage and hitting by your second or third session. No previous experience needed — we coach from scratch.

4

Finish & decide

After training, there's usually a pub trip. Decide if you want to join — no pressure. Membership opens up BBF league games, full training, and the full club experience.

Common questions

Before you come along

Not at all. The majority of players who join us have never played baseball before. We coach from basics and you'll find experienced players always willing to help. The Rookie membership tier is designed specifically for people new to the sport.

For your first session, just wear comfortable sports clothing and trainers or cleats if you have them. The club provides bats, gloves, helmets, and balls — you don't need to buy anything to try it out. Once you join, your membership fee covers club kit.

Adult training is Thursday evenings 6:30–8:30pm at Kings College, Guildford (May–August). Junior sessions are Saturday mornings 9:30am–12:00pm. Our club assistant can confirm the latest schedule.

Most members come to Thursday training (roughly 2 hours) and Sunday BBF fixtures during the season. There's no mandatory attendance — we understand people have lives outside baseball!

Kings College is on Southway, Guildford. For outdoor games and training, parking is off Park Barn Way at the back of the school — not the main entrance. Check our contact page for full directions.

Absolutely. The Guildford Mavericks welcomes players of all genders and backgrounds. We have women playing in our adult teams and the junior programme is open to all children aged 8–14.
