Guildford Baseball & Softball club, in conjunction with BSUK and Active Surrey are looking to run a schools development programme to encourage more children to take up the sports, and to make the pathway between schools sports and community clubs such as ourselves, that much easier.
Initially this is going to be focused on the top end of Primary Schools (Years 5 & 6) and on schools in the Guildford area, although if there is sufficient interest, then this can be expanded further.
The format, will see coaches from the GBSC, running sessions at the school, for boys and girls, early in the Summer Team, over 4 or 5 weeks. It will teach some of the basics of the game, but most importantly get children active, and hopefully enjoying the sport.
There will be a “Finals” festival to be held later in the term, where each school can submit a mixed team, to take part in a mini tournament, at a local venue in Guildford.
Participation in this, provide the following
- 4+ weekly sessions delivered in your school by qualified GBSC/BSUK coaches
- A festival to be held locally, where your school will play against other schools participating in this programme
- Discounted coaching at Guildford Mavericks Saturday morning sessions, for 2015
- Free entry to GBSC Family fun day for participants and discounted entry for adults
- Discounted entrance into Baseball summer camp days to be held during school holidays
- Baseball themed stand to raise funds at Schools summer fete
- Teacher Training course to support school staff wishing to learn how to deliver lessons in future
So if you attend one of the primary schools in the Guildford and surrounding areas, please encourage your PE Lead to take up the offer for your school to participate, as it would be good to see many more new faces, playing the sport.
