The Guildford Mavericks will be running a Beginners Baseball course aimed specifically at players new to the game or those with little experience.
Commencing on the 30th April, the course will comprise 6 weekly sessions, running every Thursday from 7:00 pm to 8:30pm at the clubs ground at Christ’s College.
Cost will be £15 for all 6 sessions and are open to men and women over the age of 16 (under this age, please contact us about our junior sessions).
Each session will cover specific topics and will be a mix of walk through tutorials and fun drills to help emphasise the skills. The fundamentals that will be covered include
- Hitting
- Throwing
- Fielding
- Base Running
- Pitching
- Strategy
- Rules of the Game
The final session will be on Thurs 4th June (although may be extended if we have to postpone any sessions due to the weather). After completion of the course, the participants will join the Mavericks developmental squad for 2105 season, or in some cases, may even join the current Mavericks 1st team. The aim of the Developmental squad, is to further improve players skills through a mix of training sessions and friendlies organised against other teams, with the expectation that it will form the basis of a team entering the Single-A level of the BBF leagues the following season.
All sessions are held outside on a grass pitch. So please wear clothing suitable for outside exercise, and footwear that will give you grip on grass (trainers are fine when the conditions are dry, although you may prefer some kind of stud/cleat if it is still quite damp).
The club will provide all equipment necessary, which includes, gloves, bats, batting helmets, and all training equipment.
