The annual Awards evening was held on the 5th October, at Bills Restaurant in Guildford. As always, there was a good turnout, and the club were able to honour those players who performed notably, during the 2014 season, as well as put a full stop on an eventful 2014 season.
Awards went to the following:
MVP : Jimmy Shaw
Offensive Player of the Year: Brett Lowrey
Defensive Player of the Year: Patrick Matias
Rookie of the Year: Scott McGrane
Mavericks of the Year: Chris Ward
At the end of the evening, a very special award and presentation was made to Heather Armstead, as she became the first Maverick to have their shirt number retired. Heather who has been with the club since 2004, when she moved to the Mavericks from Bournemouth has been forced to retire from the game following a serious motorbike accident in the summer. A catcher for many years, since her junior days in Bournemouth, she had an exceptional glove behind the plate and will be sorely missed on the diamond.
The club would like to congratulate all award winners, and look forward to more great play in 2015.
